All websites aimed at citizens in and of the European Union are obliged to ask your permission for the use or storage of cookies and similar technologies on your computers or mobile devices. In doing so, we follow the guidelines and recommendations of the Belgian Data Protection Authority (GBA) and the Flemish supervisory committee for the processessing of personal data (VTC).  For example, we do not place web beacons and pixels of social media, but refer to our social media with direct links.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small data file that is stored in your browser (Chrome or Firefox, for example) or on your device's hard drive or SSD when you visit a website. Information is stored in such a file, such as your language preference for a website. This enables us to remember certain settings or preferences when using our website. If you visit the website again later, this cookie is sent to the website again. In this way, the website recognises your browser and can, for example, remember your language preference.

Cookies usually also have an expiry period, they are deleted automatically after a certain period of time. For example, some cookies are automatically deleted when you close your browser (the so-called "session cookie"), while others remain on your computer for a longer period of time - sometimes even until you delete them manually (the so-called "permanent cookie" or "persistent cookie").

Data collected through cookies will not be passed on by us to third parties or communicated in any way whatsoever except in the form of aggregated numerical data.

Types of cookies

The VREG, the administrator of this website, uses the following types of cookies on www.vreg.be.

  • cookies which are technically essential ("essential cookies", also called "necessary cookies");
  • cookies for functional purposes;
  • cookies for analytical purposes.

Essential cookies: these cookies are necessary for purely technical reasons for the use of the website and are therefore often called "necessary cookies". This type of cookie ensures that the website or mobile application works properly. Some examples: to fill in a form, to remember your chosen language or your privacy preferences. This category of cookies is essential for the proper functioning of the site or application and to remember your preferences during your visit to the site or session of use of our application. Given their technical necessity, they are placed as soon as you enter the website. This does not require the consent of the website visitor and is subject to an information obligation only.

Functional cookies: these cookies ensure that the website functions properly. This type of cookie improves and adapts your user experience by displaying relevant information based on your previous choices or browsing data. Some examples: remembering your language preference for multiple sessions, remembering that you have already participated in a survey. These cookies make using our website and application easier, but if you do not accept this category of cookies, the website will continue to work.

These cookies are only set after a choice has been made as to which cookies are allowed.

Analytical cookies: these cookies are used to collect statistics about the use of the website or the mobile application; for example: the date and time of the visit, the duration of the session, the pages or screens visited or the number of visitors. They help us evaluate how visitors navigate through the site or use the application. They also help us to assess and optimise the service in order to improve the content and usability of the site or application. All information collected by these cookies is aggregated and, where possible, anonymised in accordance with the precautionary principles that apply to this (including Google's own instructions and those of the Dutch Personal Data Authority).

These cookies are only placed after a choice has been made as to which cookies are allowed.

You can choose not to accept these cookies so that they are not placed. After all, an active consent will be asked for (OPT-IN). If you allow these anonymised statistical cookies, you will help us gain a better understanding of how our website works; however, you are free to choose whether or not to do this. You can feel free to allow the use of the analytical cookies used by us without endangering your privacy.

Cookies and similar technologies we do not use: we do not use targeting cookies, marketing cookies or social media cookies.
